Have you seen self-promotion as a bad thing? This write-up may change your mind 🧠
Yes, self-promotion can be awkward for most of us whether you are an introvert or extrovert. But as the internet age is growing exponentially I see it really doesn't matter whether what vert you belong to, it has paved the bridge between awkwardness and confidence. No longer it's a game of how nicely or badly you get along with people. You have thoughts and learnings to share to others which can be obvious to you but may be amazing to others.
Also I have heard and I have also told some of the below annotations when it came to self-promotion-
People out there are already spamming others, I don't want to add up as one more in the spammer list.
My work will speak for me! I don't need promoting
If I keep promoting when will I actually work.
The people who are actually working won't publish that much, they don't have all the time here
I don’t know anything about marketing
I don’t have a niche
And the list can go on and on…
So there is something which holds back most of us from putting or sharing our journey and learnings in internet.
Actually most people are uncomfortable with self-promotions. It is not the work which they fear to be judged, people often feel fear about themselves - the person behind the promotion.
But these days, especially after remote life revolving 360 degrees around us, we are getting close to a wide spectrum where we are able get our most of our work/tasks/jobs done without leaving your home, with a laptop/mobile and internet connectivity.
If one keeps a basic idea as: Helping others, and you will benefit, too. Below are 10 ways by which self-promote can be done without coming out as needy and attention seeker -
Producing contents which you truly want to share and benefit others with 0 expectation in return.
Share your journey and learnings with others. You never know one might feel a lot better and confident by just reading your posts.
Include or mention people in your contents which helps in creating credibility and network.
Always look up to create and give away valuable pieces of contents.
Be your authentic self. If you want to reach people with your work for a long-term who got to be your true self. Otherwise this will become damn hard for you as you are trying to be someone else.
Keep on learning new skills and share them with others : From a newbie to where you are right now.
Be expertise in 1-3 fields. But do not be afraid of sharing your new learnings.
Always ask for feedback and comments on your work. There is so much more to learn and unlearn on what you know.
Be consistent with the true work. Have scheduled time for writing the contents and work, and automate the scheduling to save time if you post on social media actively everyday.
Lastly, break the status quo and try to think differently on the problem.
Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.
